Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) is often overlooked in emergencies – with dire consequences. Pregnant women risk life threatening complications. Women and adolescent girls may lose access to family planning, exposing them to unintended pregnancies. They become more vulnerable to sexual violence and HIV, and may have nowhere to turn as health services are disrupted.
UNFPA calls for the realization of reproductive health and reproductive rights for all and supports access to a wide range of sexual and reproductive health services – including voluntary family planning and maternal health care.
The Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for Reproductive Health in Crisis is a set of priority interventions designed to save lives and avert preventable injuries, illness and suffering, particularly among women and girls, at the onset of a crisis. It was developed through the Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crises, of which UNFPA is a member to advance the sexual and reproductive health of people affected by conflict and natural disaster.
