The needs of women and girls are staggering in Lebanon. Families lack access to the basics, including water and electricity, while many have returned to homes and communities devastated by the escalation of hostilities in September 2024.

Overstretched healthcare facilities are struggling to meet demands, leaving women without access to critical healthcare, including an estimated 43,000 pregnant women. The situation will only be exacerbated by recent funding cuts.

Amid relentless political and economic instability, poverty rates have skyrocketed, leaving  nearly 30 percent of the population battling severe food insecurity. Displacement and unsafe housing, along with limited protection services, have triggered an alarming surge in gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse, and child marriage. Female-headed households, displaced families, and returnees to war damaged communities are at the greatest risk. Conflict and displacement have also left deep, long-lasting emotional scars and the need for mental health and psychosocial support far exceeds current resources.

UNFPA is working alongside the government and partners to restore critical maternal health and protection services, strengthen institutions and ensure that women, girls and youth are at the centre of an inclusive recovery process.
