Across the Arab region, the impacts of climate change are becoming more visible — from rising temperatures to water scarcity and land degradation. These environmental challenges are making life even harder for vulnerable groups, especially women, girls, refugees, and people with disabilities.
To better understand these evolving risks and strengthen climate resilience, UNFPA carried out an environmental assessment across its country offices in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Türkiye, and the Gaziantep Cross-Border hub. The goal was to explore how climate change is affecting operations and where there are opportunities to do better.

The findings show that UNFPA offices are already taking positive steps — such as using solar energy in health facilities and youth centers, cutting back on paper use, and integrating climate awareness into their programming. At the same time, there’s a clear need to scale up efforts. Staff and partners need more tools, training, and support to ensure environmental sustainability is fully woven into both everyday work and emergency response.

This publication outlines practical ways to move forward, helping UNFPA and its partners lead the way in building a healthier, more climate-resilient future for all.
