Summary

The humanitarian situation in occupied Palestinian territory remains dire, with over 1.9 million people displaced in Gaza and critical shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. The collapse of infrastructure has left women and girls particularly vulnerable, with limited access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, inadequate shelter, and rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV). Only 19 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza remain partially functional, while severe movement restrictions in the West Bank are preventing pregnant women from reaching life-saving maternal care. Overcrowded and unsafe shelters, lack of sanitation, and exposure to harsh winter conditions are further exacerbating health risks, particularly for newborns and expectant mothers.

In response, UNFPA has scaled up life-saving SRH and GBV services, reaching 140,000 women and girls across the territory in February. More than 80,000 people received SRH services, including emergency obstetric and neonatal care, while UNFPA rehabilitated health facilities and deployed mobile teams to reach displaced and marginalized communities. GBV prevention and response services were expanded to assist 38,000 individuals, with increased support for women and girls’ safe spaces, case management, and psychosocial support. Additionally, over 22,000 adolescents and youth were engaged in education, mental health programmes, and awareness initiatives to help them navigate the ongoing crisis.

Despite these efforts, UNFPA faces a significant funding shortfall, threatening the continuation of critical services. Under the 2025 Occupied Palestinian Territory Flash Appeal, UNFPA requires $99.2 million to sustain and expand its response, yet only $10.6 million has been received to date. An additional $88.6 million is urgently needed to ensure access to maternal healthcare, GBV support, and essential services for women and girls. Without immediate funding, millions will remain at risk, with dire consequences for their health, safety, and dignity.
