calendar_today 01 November 2017

From 25th November, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to 10th December, the Human Rights Day - 16 days of Activism, is a time to join hands and forces to end violence against women and girls around the world.

To mark the campaign this year, UNFPA Jordan Country Office (CO) is using innovative tools to tackle social taboos to open new channels and means of dialogue and communication.

Often the best way to express culturally sensitive subjects is through innovative methodologies, which gives a new and fresh appeal to a subject that is otherwise not easy to explore, especially in societies led by traditional values, norms and social order.

Such is the case for the issue of different forms of gender- based violence, in particular domestic violence in Jordan.

On the occasion of the 16 days of Activism 2017, UNFPA Jordan CO in partnership with Seven Circles has launched an Online Cartoon Competition that requires participants to create and submit original cartoons in order to express the negative effects of child marriage and domestic violence.

The competition will be carried out under the leadership of the well-known caricaturist Mr. Omar Al Abdallat, who tackles sensitive subjects through cartoons. The UNFPA supported online campaign competition will remain live for a period of one month starting from 22/October/ 2017 and two submissions will be selected for the award based on voting and the decision of the jury members.

The winners will be recognized and awarded in a public event at Landmark Hotel in Amman, that will mark the progress of Gender Based Violence Programming in Jordan seven years after the Syrian crisis during the 16 days of Activism.
