كرست الجدة السودانية أم كلثوم نفسها لمناهضة تشويه الأعضاء التناسلية للإناث (الختان) وهي مثال مضيء على أن هذه الممارسة الضارة يمكن هزيمتها حيث ساهمت في إنقاذ 3 من حفيداتها تتراوح أعمارهن بين 6 و21 عاما من الختان.

Sudanese Grandmother Om Kolthum has devoted herself to the fight against FGM, and she is a great example that FGM can be beaten. Thanks to her, three of her granddaughters aged 6-21 have not undergone the practice.

وُلدت شام في اليوم التالي لإجلاء والدتها من داريا، بسوريا. قام الهلال الأحمر السوري بنقل والدتها إلى المستشفى لكي تتمكن من وضع طفلتها بصورة آمنة.

وبعد ولادة شام، انتقلت ووالدتها إلى مخيم حرجلة، حيث يوفر لهما صندوق الأمم المتحدة للسكان الرعاية والدعم.

Sham was born the day after her mother was evacuated from Daryaa, Syria. Her mother was transferred by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to the hospital so she could give birth safely. After Sham was delivered, she and her mother were moved to the Hirjaleh shelter, where they have been receiving UNFPA-provided medical care and support.

تتعرض أكثر من 500 سيدة إلى الوفاة يوميا أثناء الحمل أو الولادة، في أوضاع الأزمات والظروف غير المهيئة.

ينبغي أن تتوفر لكل النساء – حتى أولئك العالقات في النزاعات أو الكوارث أو غيرها من الأزمات – القدرة على الولادة الآمنة. يعمل صندوق الأمم المتحدة للسكان مع الشركاء لتوفير الرعاية للنساء الحوامل والأمهات الجدد حتى في أصعب الظروف.

Over 500 women die in pregnancy or childbirth every day in humanitarian and fragile settings.

All women – even those caught in conflicts, disasters or other crises – should be able to give birth safely. UNFPA is working with partners to deliver care to pregnant women and new mothers in even the most treacherous situations. Learn more here.

As part of an advocacy initiative under the United Nations Joint Global Programme on Essential Services for Women and Girls Subject to Violence, a moving infographic has been developed that captures the rationale for why women and girl victims and survivors of violence need to access quality essential services as a matter of right. The participating UN agencies include: UNFPA, UN WOMEN, WHO, UNDP and UNODC. These infographics have been developed in collaboration with the International Center for Research on Women and Teal Media.
