This year’s State of the World Population (SWOP) report comes at the 50th anniversary of the creation of UNFPA, the UN agency for sexual and reproductive health, and the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). The report analyzes the progress the world has made regarding the promises of the ICPD including putting individuals in charge of their own reproductive decisions and empowering women and girls as a precondition for development. The report also identifies areas of improvement and tells stories of women who lived through the transformative decades since the promises of the ICDP were first made.

Report on UNFPA's first Arab Youth Forum
The United Nations Population Fund Arab States Regional Office in partnership with the World Organization of the Scout Movement, and the Mediterranean Forum for Youth, organized the first-ever Youth Forum in the Arab Region, which was held at the Prince Bandar Bin Sultan Library and Hassan II international forums centre in Assilah, Kingdom of Morocco from 19-21 December 2018.

Gender justice & the law in the Arab States region
In cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency (UNFPA) produced a study on Gender Justice and the Law which provides a systematic review of the laws in 18 countries of the Arab states region to assess whether they promote or impede equality between women and men and provide protection against gender-based violence. The countries included in the study are: Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, State of Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen. Collectively, this study refers to these countries as the Arab states region.
