Syria Crisis: 10 Years On Fact Sheet
In 2021, Syria faces an unprecedented crisis. Years of instability, a worsening economic situation, funding shortfalls, and the COVID-19 pandemic have converged to place lives at risk, with women and girls continuing to bear the brunt of these challenges.
Women at the Centre: Joint cash-based assistance for women’s food security, nutrition, health and protection in Syria
As of January 2021, a record 12.4 million Syrians are assessed to be food insecure. The scale, severity and complexity of humanitarian needs have significantly worsened since 2019 due to a dramatic economic downturn, soaring food prices, and the rampant devaluation of the local currency, compounded by the socio-economic impact of COVID-19 and protracted conflict. Women and girls were disproportionately affected. COVID-19 has exacerbated the exposure of women and girls to gender-based violence and restricted their access to sexual and reproductive health services.
OVERVIEW OF FUNDING NEEDS UNFPA REGIONAL SYRIA CRISIS RESPONSE - 21
The crisis in Syria has been globally recognized as one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time. As of late 2020, more than 11.7 million people inside Syria are in need, while close to 5.7 million have taken refuge in neighbouring countries throughout the region. They continue to suffer the effects of a decade of conflict, including disruption of community networks, safety nets, and rule of law. Even as some parts of Syria stabilise, the crisis has passed a tipping point in terms of generational change, and its effects will undoubtedly continue for many years to come. This is particularly true in the case of women and girls due to the deep- rooted complexity of the issues they continue to face on a daily basis.

Beyond Numbers: Improving the Gathering of Gender-Based Violence Data to Inform Humanitarian Responses
This Knowledge Series guide provides a roadmap for producing in-depth gender-based violence analyses to inform humanitarian responses.
It is widely acknowledged that prevalence data is not necessary for establishing effective gender-based violence responses. As such, this guide aims to inform gender-based violence (GBV) responders, GBV coordinators, and humanitarian actors on how to collect GBV data safely to inform humanitarian responses, especially in contexts where available information on GBV is limited.

Case Study on Cash and Voucher Assistance in Northwest Syria
In early 2020, UNFPA decided to scale up its assistance to provide programming for the most vulnerable with the aim to reduce overall protection risks. A one-off, unconditional individual protection assistance (IPA) was designed, targeting individuals with exacerbated vulnerabilities. The aim of this case study is to highlight the rationale and impact of this initiative in the hope of benefitting other programmes and responses.
