UNFPA’s experience in diverse humanitarian contexts has shown that Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) is a powerful instrument for saving lives, alleviating risks, and helping women and girls escape abusive environments.
"When I was pregnant, I was afraid. I had no money, and I thought I would give birth at home," said Amina, who lives in the Afmadow camp in Somalia. "Then the outreach team gave me a voucher. I delivered safely. Without that voucher, maybe my baby and I would not have survived."
By providing greater access to vital services and empowering women with the freedom of choice, UNFPA recognizes Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) as a vital catalyst in ending the unmet need for family planning, eliminating preventable maternal deaths, and eradicating gender-based violence and harmful practices.
This fact sheet provides an overview of key achievements made in 2025 under UNFPA’s CVA programming throughout the Arab region and Türkiye.
