Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Workshop as part of the framework of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics project. The workshop will be held in Landmark Hotel, Amman, Jordan Nov 24-26, 2019.

  

The workshop will bring together different stakeholders, National partners from Morocco, Tunisia and Jordan, UNFPA focal points, IDRC, and Regional partners including UN-ESCWA, WHO-EMRO and others to launch and coordinate the UNFPA-IDRC Project on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics with special attention on Gender dimension.

 

The main objectives of this gathering to Capitalize on our census work to link it with CRVS – and combine these data sources to assess quality and coverage of CRVS, Focus on CRVS system inclusiveness of and barriers for women and girls – and start addressing marriage and divorce registration and Support national stakeholders, governments produce vital statistics.

The core activities of the joint UNFPA-IDRC initiative involves leveraging recent censuses and UNFPA’s technical familiarity with Census and Civil Registration and Vital Statistics analysis to generate disaggregated estimates of civil registration data completeness and quality – particularly for death events, and explore sex differentials in death registration completeness in select countries. These activities also entails strengthening capacity of national authorities to produce routine vital statistics, disaggregated at subnational level, by sex and other nationally-relevant characteristics as data allow - from incomplete and deficient civil registration systems.

 

Participants of this technical inception workshop will Review the challenges of advancing inclusive Civil Registration and Vital Statistics systems particularly for women and girls, and vulnerable groups such as displaced persons in Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia. Participants will also address civil registrations and vital statistics challenges in selected countries, and align the UNFPA-IDRC joint initiative on civil registration and vital statistics to the regional strategy for the improvement of civil registration and vital statistics systems (2014-2019) and its follow-up efforts.

The workshop also meant to coordinate national capacity building efforts in the area of completeness assessment of civil registration data, proximate determinants research of under-registration of vital events, and vital statistics production.
