The 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City from 14 to 24 March 2016.
The CSW is the United Nations body dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women, and is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Monday, 14 March

● 3:00 – 4:40 P.M.: Launch of UNFPA programme on Women, Peace and Security

Together with the Economic Commission for Latin America and Caribbean and member states, UNFPA will launch a recently developed training programme for peacekeeping forces and other stakeholders in support of implementing UNSCR 1325, which addresses the inordinate impact of war on women and the pivotal role they should, and do, play in conflict management, resolution and sustainable peace.

 

Tuesday, 15 March

● 10:00 – 11:30 A.M.: The Gender Perspective of the Refugee Responses

The discussion will focus on how women and girls are disproportionately affected by the refugee crises, which increases their vulnerability to sexual and gender-based violence, and how best to respond.

● 4:00 – 6:00 P.M.: Launch of UNFPA/UNICEF Programme to End Child Marriage

The new initiative, to be launched in partnership with governments, civil society and other global and local actors, will build on present momentum to end child marriage.
Wednesday, 16 March

● 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.: The time is now! Let’s end harmful practices against women and girls by 2030

Survivors, activists, leaders, celebrities and artists will mark efforts to end harmful practices like child marriage, female genital mutilation, gender-based violence and son preference (RSVP required).
In addition, on 11 March, in advance of CSW, UNFPA is convening a High-Level Forum on Adolescent Girls and Agenda 2030.
