Cairo, 25 November 2016 - Today, on the International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women, Termanin Hospital for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Idlib governorate was hit four times. UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund supports this hospital that provides also services and counselling to women who have survived gender-based violence.

This is the second time that a maternity hospital comes under direct attack this week, in another blatant disregard for international humanitarian law, which stipulates that medical facilities and personnel should not be targeted during conflicts.

The strikes hit the eastern part of the hospital, killing the gynecologist and a cleaner, and injuring two civilians, in addition to destroying the ambulance, the emergency room, the operations room and a large part of the hospital's medical and surgical equipment. Termanin hospital provided services to an average of 35 women every day, pregnant or survivors of violence.
